Devils Dominate Flyers
The New Jersey Devils came away last night with a victory over the Philadelphia Flyers. Patrik Elias returned from a groin injury to pave the way with a goal and a helper. But, what surprised fans, the media, and everyone occurred in the second period of the Devils 3-0 blanking of the Flyers.
“Following his team's 3-0 loss to New Jersey, Hatcher pleaded innocent when accused of biting Devils center Travis Zajac's finger during a scrum in the second period. Zajac, who scored his sixth goal of the season in the victory, received stitches after suffering a gash on the middle finger of his left hand following the confrontation” (National Post)
I will discuss this incident in detail later today.
Martin Brodeur made 36 saves in earning his 96th career regular season shutout. The NHL named him the first star of the night for his efforts, in the Devils' fourth sellout at the Prudential Center. Paul Martin and Travis Zajac scored the other goals. Zajac had not scored in 11 games and Martin reached his 100th career point.
With the win, the Devils have a three-point lead over Pittsburgh.
The Devils travel to Boston tonight for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off. Kevin Weekes may start against the Bruins this evening (TG).
