Devils Game Notes vs. Islanders (2/23/08)
Posted February 23rd, 2008 by Jeremy Kenter
Here are some interesting game notes from Game 62 between the visiting Islanders and Devils. My game story here. Playing in front of a rare sellout crowd of 17, 625, the Devils concluded a 15 of 18-game
stretch at the Prudential Center. They witnessed the strong efforts of Martin Brodeur (19 saves), Zach Parise (G, A), John Madden (SHG, +1) and the rest of the Devils lineup (D-men 3A, +2). For a full recap.
- 8 of next 10 games on road
- Since players-only meeting on Feb. 8, the Devils are 6-0-1.
- While continuing their
unbeaten streak at seven, the Devils snapped Islanders 6
game winning streak.
- Depleted islanders team competed without six starters, including three starting defensemen.
- Devils are completely healthy. Vitaly Vishnevski and Karel Rachunek were two healthy scratches. Cam Janssen remains on IR due to insufficient room on roster, but has returned to practice, rotating on fourth line.
- Jersey Boys had scored 2 goals in the third period of their last 6 games before depositing 2 more today.
- Devils netted a season-high 20-third period shots today
- Devils took 42 shots on goal, their second highest number since blasting 45 on Jan. 5 (4-3 loss at Boston)
- Brodeur started his 21st straight game on Saturday. Kevin Weekes has not seen live action since the defeat to the Bruins (mentioned in the previous bullet point).
- Quotes: “Here we go again,” Brodeur said, after the Islanders opened the contest in front 1-0. But, the Devils had the last laugh and Brodeur said, "It was about us. We wanted to play well.”
