Devils in Midst of Important Stretch at Rock

As everyone in the metro area will be tuned into the Giants-Packers NFC Championship Game this Sunday night, the Devils have plenty of work to do at home.  Beginning with the 2-1 loss to the New York Islanders on Wednesday night, the New Jersey Devils have begun an 18-game stretch, 15 of which will take place at the Prudential Center.

This home streak is also crucial, because the Devils have been in first place since Dec.7. However, the Pittsburgh Penguins are now breathing fire down their neck with exactly the same record (26-16-3), and by far, a much easier matchup tonight.  Sid the Kid and Co. host a team that only makes the Los Angeles Kings look bad, the Tampa Bay Lightning.

As quoted today in Mark Everson's New York Post article, Brent Sutter exemplified the importance of the Devils winning home games or else they will "find themselves at the bottom of the pack."

The Devils command a gaudy 13-6 record at home, but on the same token, they will be facing the resurgent Montreal Canadians, the Pittsburgh Penguins twice, Carolina Panthers twice, the Scott Niedermeyer’s Mighty Ducks, the San Jose Sharks, and two teams they have not beaten this season: the NY Rangers and NY Islanders during this difficult period.

This upcoming group of games can either make or break the Devils 2007-08 campaign.

The Devils "Around the Blogosphere" segment returns to the Devils Daily blog waves tomorrow, because I didn't see any recent posts worthy of making that segment for now.

I guess Devils bloggers were too stunned by another loss to the Islanders, their fifth this season, to write extremely outstanding posts.
