Devils Scoring Goals in '08

The New Jersey Devils have been red hot of late. The Devils, currently sitting first in the Atlantic Division, have scored 15 goals, are 4-1 (7-2 in their last 9) and have yet to surrender a power play goal since the start of 2008.

Credit can be attributed to the reawakening of the Devils offense and the stellar play of goaltender Martin Brodeur. That’s right, I used the term offense in conjunction with the New Jersey Devils. That’s because Patrick Elias has finally come to life and has seemingly sparked the entire team offensively.

Here’s a quick look at some recent individual numbers:

  • Patrick Elias: 4 G, 4 A, plus-4, 2 GWG last 7 games
  • Travis Zajac: 3 G, 2 A, 2 PPG last 5 games
  • Andy Greene: 1 PPG, 2 PPA last 4 games (Greene had a PPG waived off in Carolina)
  • Paul Martin: 1 G, 2 A, plus-2, 1 GWG last 4 games
  • Jaime Langenbrunner: 1 G, 4 A (3 PPA) last 5 games
  • Brian Gionta: 2 PPG, 1 GWG last 5 games
  • Zach Parise: Team-high 40 points
  • Martin Brodeur: 7-1-0, 1.23 GAA, 2 SHO last 8 starts
    • Brodeur was named the starting goaltender for the 2008 Eastern Conference All-Stars on Tuesday, and has allowed a goal or less in six of his last eight starts.

The Devils are in Buffalo tonight against a slumping Sabres team (7 p.m., FSN NY, Bloomberg 1130 AM). The Sabres have yet to record a win in 2008 and have lost eight straight entering tonight’s contest. New Jersey beat Buffalo in both of their meetings this season with a pair of 2-1 shootout victories.
