Devils Tickets Still Available for Tonight

The New Jersey Devils want you, not to join the army, but to attend some games this year, especially weekday matchups. Tonight, they host the Florida Panthers at the Prudential Center, their third meeting of the season. Hopefully, fans will get over their hangovers, return to work, and then realize that there is a Devils game at half price, via njdevilsticketprograms.  Futhermore, if you cannot make it to the Rock this evening, please join the Devils Friday night versus Philadelphia.

Realistically, I expect a crowd of 14-15,000.  The last Devils’ weekday contest occurred on December 5, a 4-3 overtime win over Boston. The announced attendance was 14,012, filling 79.5% of the Prudential Center. You never know.

People may have declared attending hockey a New Year’s Resolution. After watching the Winter Classic yesterday, I surely would have myself. It was fun-filled, packed to capacity, and exciting, unlike some other programming on the tube.  If you need proof, just ask the NHL, which distributed over 200 media credentials to the Pittsburgh-Buffalo game.  Along with a sellout crowd of 71,217 in attendance at Ralph Wilson Stadium, the media wanted to cover the game like it were the Stanley Cup Finals.  If Comm. Gary Bettman were to get any ideas about moving the Finals to the outdoors, I hope he did not drink too much eggnog, even though with the long postseason schedule, the Finals start in June (hmm... interesting).

Everyone knew that the Bowl Games were overrated and uninteresting. By the way, how can college football call the bowl games a postseason? First, they count statistics as part of the regular season, which makes absolutely no sense. Secondly and more importantly, there is question about the National Champion. Last time I checked, D-I football is the only professional sport on the planet with a fucked up, non-playoff system in place.  It is unjustifiable and unreasonable to expect a fair system when we focus on money, fame and wealth, rather than success, sportsmanship (what’s that again?), and professionalism.

Anyway, instead of dishing out thousands for a bowl game determined by a flawed computer ranking system, spend $35 for a meaningful Devils game with the family, friends, or whomever. You are all invited. Happy New Year.

Previous Meetings:

October 6, 2007 Devils 4, Panthers 1 (Kevin Weekes’ rare start; 32 saves for W)

October 11, 2007 Devils 0, Panthers 3 (Tomas Vokoun outplayed Martin Brodeur,

Devils committed costly penalties)

Newark Devils

Oh, give me a break. I grew up right outside Newark, and as bad as some sections of it are, the area around the Rock is COMPLETELY safe, especially given the strong police presence.

The areas that are really bad are closer to Irvington. The Rock is on Mullberry St., the same street as the NJPAC. It's completely safe.

My friend.  I attended a game last week against the Florida Panthers.  I felt safe and secure.  I parked in a lot barely two minutes from the arena.  They have a police force that could entertain the president.  It might not be as safe as the Swamp but see for yourself.  Ask other fans on NJ.com, or hfboards.com if you don't believe me.

Sorry, I was a fan when they were at the Meadowlands but I refuse bring my family into the gang and homicide capital of New Jersey. It was nice while it lasted.
