Game 48: Devils Look to Continue Scoring Rampage, Host Canadiens

Hmmm...  I mentioned Devils and scoring rampage in the same sentence or title for that matter.  It's the truth.  On Tuesday the New Jersey Devils pounded seven goals on their Atlantic Division rivals, led by defenseman Johnny Oduya's career high four point night.  Tonight, they hope to make some more magic on the ice when the Montreal Canadiens come to town, downtown Newark that is.  The last time the Habs visited, they left wondering how to stop All-Star snub Zach Parise (first career hat trick) and score on goaltender Martin Brodeur (stopped all 27 shots, earned 94th shutout).

To make matters worse for the Canadiens, they have lost nine straight to the Devils.  Yikes.  With a healthy Madden in the lineup and a rare special teams outburst by th Devils, who scored five power play goals in their 7-3 win at Philadelphia, they have recovered from a two game losing streak in a hurry.

New Jersey leads the tight divisional race by one point, with all five teams in action later tonight.  While the Devils take on Montreal, the Flyers and Penguins battle in Philly without Sidney Crosby who is out for 6-8 weeks with his high ankle sprain.  Sorry to those Crosby bandwagoners, Bill thinks Ovechkin is better regardless of his health.

In the meanwhile, Brodeur will start his 44th regular season game, but not his 5th career All Star Game due to family matters.

Devils head coach Brent Sutter will not be on the sidelines either at the All Star Game, citing a stipulation in his contract which allows him to return home during vacations.  Sutter's family has remained in Deer Park, Alberta while he is New Jersey and he has not seen them since Christmas.  He's a family man alright.

Devils Game to be broadcast on FSNY HD and on WFAN 660AM as usual...

Late night statistics IV, injury report, Brian Leetch's Retirement Night, Dana Jacobson... later today

Go Devils!
