Game 57-- Devils Host Senators -- Wednesday February 13 @ 7:00 PM

After defeating Carolina on Saturday night, the Devils are hosting the Senators for the second time this season. Three defensemen scored four goals in New Jersey’s 6-1 victory over the Hurricanes, including Paul Martin’s first career two-goal effort. Elias, Clarkson and Langenbrunner added two assists apiece, eventually knocking out Hurricanes goaltender Cam Ward (14 saves on 20 shots). Is the Atlantic Division heating up?

Meanwhile, the Senators are finishing off the second half of a back-to-back stretch. They were less successful last night, falling to Buffalo 5-1. Thomas Vanek scored three goals, earning his first hat trick. Is Vanek overpaid? What about Patrik Elias? Both athletes are among the NHL’s top 25 highest paid players.

Ottawa had completed the first significant trade on Monday, acquiring Cory Stillman and Mike Commodore from the Hurricanes for Patrick Eaves and Joe Corvo. Last night, Stillman finished with an assist but Commodore was -2 plus/minus in the collapse.

FSNY HD will televise the broadcast and WFAN 660 AM will host the radioed broadcast.

Both teams are finally healthy and I expect the contest tonight to be physical and demanding.

Martin Brodeur will start his 16th consecutive game in net, according to Tom Gulitti.

Gulitti reported the lines in practice as such:

Yesterday's line combinations and defense pairs:

Forwards: Parise-Elias-Langenbrunner; Zubrus-Zajac-Gionta; Pandolfo-Madden-Clarkson; Rupp-Brylin-Asham; empty-Pelley-Janssen.

Defense: White-Mottau; Oduya-Martin; Vishnevski-Greene; Brookbank-Rachunek.

Gulitti also said that there would likely be a change on the defensive corpse.

I think Rachunek will return to the lineup, replacing Greene.
