Pandolfo Likely Back as Devils host Penguins

The Devils manufactured six goals in Saturday night’s 6-3 win over the Kings. Tonight, they need to continue that rare offensive outburst against a dangerous Sidney Crosby-less Pittsburgh club. The Penguins have managed to remain near top of Atlantic despite having six regulars on injured reserve, including their captain and scoring leader Crosby (high ankle sprain).

After missing 28 games due to a pubic bone ligament strain, Devils forward Jay Pandolfo will likely return to the lineup, Tom Gulitti reported on his blog. On Nov. 28, Pandolfo crashed into the boards, suffering the respective ligament injury. This is crucial considering the Penguins possess offensive weapon Evgeni Malkin, who has stepped up in Crosby's absence. Expect Pandolfo (an unrestricted free agent at season's end), Madden and Brylin/Clarkson to skate against the Penguins No. 1 line.

Last game, Madden’s checking unit held the Kings top scoring unit off the board, while his teammates took care of the rest.

The Devils received five points, including a season-best two goals from their defensemen and Patrik Elias’ last-minute reunited line with Parise and Gionta produced a goal, an assist and a +3 plus/minus rating. Even blueliner Colin White got into the action, snapping a 125-game scoreless streak with a blast top shelf from the point. Oh, I almost forgot. Madden won that faceoff, earning the solo assist on White’s first goal of the season.

While Pando will replace Arron Asham in the rotation, defensemen Andy Greene and Sheldon Brookbank remain healthy scratches.
