Roger Federer- Champ Again, Another Fine Weekend in Sports.  Sorry about not posting for the past several days.  I was very busy returning to school and dealing with a broken laptop. Stay away from HP laptops please.

Federer won his fourth straight US Open's Men's Title on Sunday afternoon. He is rapidly approaching Pete Sampras' 14 Grand Slam Titles. Just Amazing. Phenomenal.

I am starting to think that he could be the greatest tennis player ever. Yes, ever. Pete Sampras, move over. Seriously, your status as the greatest tennis player ever is in serious competition from someone who has lost two sets only once (Nadal- Wimbledon 2007) en route to his 12 career grand slam titles (excluding the two French Open losses).

He has yet to win the French Open, losing to Rafael Nadal both times in the last two years. I always felt that Sampras is the best ever and unless Federer wins the French, he is No. 2 in my book.

But, if he continues to win tournaments and Grand Slams at this pace, he will supersede Sampras.

Excluding the French Open, Federer dominated the last 5 Wimbledons, 4 US Opens, and 3 of the last 4 Australian Opens.

Marat Safin defeated Federer in the semi-final round in a five set thriller, for those who witnessed the match. The score in that match was 5-7, 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (8-6), 9-7.

Today, Federer gave his opponent 20-year-old Novak Djokovic chances of upsetting the Swiss-German 12-time champion. Djokovic converted only 2 of 9 breakpoint chances, while the champ converted 3 of 5. The fact that he had nine opportunities to break Federer and failed in seven of them is mind-boggling if Federer was a somewhat established tennis player.

However, he is the “greatest tennis player ever” and Djokovic is still relatively youthful.

Anyway, Pedro Martinez returned to Shea Stadium for the first time since Sept. 21, 2006. I went to the game today; while my brother was forced to witness the Patriots destroy the Jets in the NFL’s first week of the season.

For more on the mets, check out Metsblog, the mets number one blog in my opinion. For the Jets recap, AOL Fanhouse provides plenty on the game and the team. Pedro lasted five awesome innings, including one in which he struck out three batters. Mota, why are you still donning a Mets uniform? The booing will not stop until you demote yourself or turn yourself around. It is September, not spring training and no more steroids. I cannot believe that I am still saying this. Just pathetic.

Then, I had to watch the New York Giants lose to the division rival Dallas Cowboys on the road. More importantly, is Eli Manning okay? What about starting RB Brandon Jacobs? Do not let us forget Osi Umenyiora’s injury either. Coughlin, are you overworking them in training camp or are these injuries part of the game? Too many questions to be answered right now. After the season, you will be gone, and if the new defensive coordinator this year leads his defense to giving up 45 points again, he should be fucking fired. Fucking pathetic defense. Eli, you played great, no fucking awesome. Yahoo Stats says it all. Defense, defense, fucking resign, all of you. I am sick of all your shit.

By the way, Justine Henin won the US Opens Women's Title also.

What a long weekend in sports.

NFL had a weird opening week. The top running backs selected in fantasy drafts did not perform up to par. Tomlinson ran for under 30 yards, Steven Jackson- don't run your mouth about rushing for 2,500 yards this season and then rack up what 60 and two fumble losses. Enough Enough.
