Power rankings do not mean anything to me.  I don't care for them at all.  They're useless and full of inaccuracies.  But, when TSN.ca decided to rank Ottawa ahead of Montreal and New Jersey yesterday, I maddened and screamed.  What have the Senators accomplished recently to justify the fourth spot?  I can easily justify the Devils recent road success, recording four wins on the road, including two consecutive at western conference foes.  In fact, the Devils maintain the second best record (7-3-0) for an eastern conference organization against the west this season, behind Pittsburgh (8-1-1) of course.  The Senators 3-3-3 record is not very impressive, nor is Montreal’s 3-5-1 campaign.

I will say that the Senators rebounded this past week with key wins at Montreal (3-0) and at home versus Boston (4-1).  Nevertheless, the Senators fell to the LA Kings on March 6 and, most recently, at Carolina, 5-1.  They have done nothing to substantiate a high power ranking and remain in sixth place in the conference, three points behind first-place New Jersey.  The Canadiens remain one point behind the Devils in the tightly-packed Eastern Conference with approximately 10 games left in the regular season.

Again, rankings mean nothing to me.  I confidently believe the Senators self-destructed earlier this season, have a terrible goaltending controversy and will not make it out of the first round of the playoffs.  Look out for the Devils and Penguins, who are heating up at the perfect time.
