Wanted: Consistent Offense

The Devils are a defensive-minded team not known for scoring many goals. But, then they go out and score six against the LA Kings on Saturday night, basically teasing us Devils fans! How can the one of the lowest scoring offenses in the league keep teasing supporters with these rare yet kind outbursts? I prefer the Devils support Brodeur with three goals per game, than score six or even seven every now and then.

After a couple of cold games, pay attention to Zach Parise (especially on reunited PEG Line). He could be the Devils future super star once Brodeur retires; he needs to start playing like that.

Tonight, the Devils host the Penguins, who earned a 4-2 win their last visit at the Rock despite missing seven regulars from the lineup.

I hope that the six-goal outing on Saturday put some confidence on their shoulders, confidence to overcome their inconsistent and inefficient scoring from the previous 5 of 6 home games.

The Devils need these division points as the New York Rangers are finding their stride and getting hot.  The Rangers, who came from behind in Sunday’s 5-3 road win at Montreal, remain one point behind the Devils in the tight Atlantic division. A win tonight puts them back in a tie for the division lead; a loss gives the Penguins the lead and pushes the Devils three points out.

Head coach Brent Sutter will prepare his team for the Crosby-less Penguins and continually prove the Devils are the team to beat in the Atlantic.

Go Devils!
