League Honors Brodeur Among Three Stars of Week

New Jersey Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur was rewarded by the league for his outstanding performances this past week.  He went 3-0 and earned his first shutout of the season.  Vancouver Canucks goalie Robert Luongo and Minnesota Wild's netminder were the other two stars of the week ending December 2nd.

A goaltender who looked average in the first month and a half of the 2007-2008 season, going 5-10-1 in the process, finished November with six straight wins.

Brodeur also recorded his 94th and 95th career shutouts during the win streak.

He was 3-0, had a 1.30 GAA, and maintained a .945SV% as the Devils extended their win streak to seven with Boston on the horizon.

Luongo:
"He had a 2-1-0 record with a 0.67 GAA, .976 save percentage and two shutouts. Luongo also had a franchise-record shutout streak of 210:34.

Backstrom:
"Backstrom went 3-0-0, with a 1.32 GAA and a .969 save percentage as the Wild moved into first place in the Northwest Division."

It is very nice to see the league appreciate the hard work by goaltenders nowadays. The pressure is to score as many goals as possible and win fans back that way.  Unfortunately for the opposition, the Devils' neutral zone trap, able defensive forwards, and skilled offensemen, (Zach Parise), limits their chances to reach the net.  Brodeur still deserved this weekly attribution for making some sprawling saves, keeping his alive for as long as he could.  Doing what Marty does best.
