"The Devils were 15-5-4 in home openers at the Meadowlands.... Defenseman Mike Mottau was a healthy scratch," according to Rich Chere, staff writer for the Star Ledger...

ESPN GAME NOTE:

"The Devils entered the game having scored more goals than just two teams (Phoenix and Nashville), while Ottawa had allowed the second-fewest goals in the league (17) behind St. Louis. ... The Senators have scored the first goal in all nine of their wins. ... All 17,600 tickets were sold for the game."

Colin White:
It's been nearly 40 days since his nasty eye injury from a deflected puck in an offseason practice... the likelihood of his return to the Devils lineup looks weaker by the day... GM Lou Lamoriello is optimistic, but he's not a doctor... the Devils wanted to rid themselves of defenseman Richard Matvichuk? what are they thinking! they need defensive help!!!!

Jamie Langenbrunner:
At least he is on track to return to the Devils second line of Langenbrunner, Parise, and Zajac soon... maybe two or three weeks until he's back... he hasn't skated in over a year so he needs to work hard once he dawns the skates...

CAA:

Devils record-tying nine game road trip:
"The road trip matched the longest in NHL history to start a season, tying Quebec (1980-81) and Carolina (1999-2000), both of whom were also moving into new facilities," according to the AP.
