Devils Rest After Ninth Consecutive Win... Rangers Next

After winning their ninth in a row, fifth straight at the newly-designed Prudential Center, head coach Brent Sutter gave the New Jersey Devils players a break on Saturday.  The Devils are in the midst of a three-game four-day tour and looked sluggish towards the end of Friday night's contest against the Washington Capitals.

Goaltender Martin Brodeur will start against the arch-rival New York Rangers on Sunday's five o'clock faceoff.

The last time the Devils had a day off from practice, they were flattened the next night by the Pittsburgh Penguins.  However, I am confident that the circumstances were much different in the beginning of November (5th) than the last three weeks of play (9-0).

Jamie Langenbrunner and Colin White have since returned to the lineup and Sutter's team has started to click.

Tthe Devs' power play unit is now 9-for-36 (25%) during the winning streak after starting the season 11-for-87 (12.6%).

The penalty killing has killed 31 of 34 (87.5%) during the winning streak after allowing 20 PP goals in 79 opportunities (75%).

We should have a more thorough preview on tomorrow's matchup later this weekend.
