New Jersey Hosts Philadelphia Before Western Spur

After taking a 4-1 beating from Phoenix and the referees (nine minor infractions called against NJ) yesterday, the Devils return to the ice today against Philadelphia.

The Devils are 2-1 against the Flyers this season, and have outscored them 10-3 in their last two meetings, both wins.  Philly won the series opener, 4-0, on Oct. 18, before New Jersey had a full lineup.

Today, the Devils may not have a full lineup again, as D Paul Martin and LW Jay Pandolfo are plagued by nagging injuries.  Pandolfo will not play today or more importantly, on the team's next three road games, since the injury has yet to heal.  There is a possibility that Martin returns to the rotation, according to head coach Brent Sutter.

G Martin Brodeur, who started against the Coyotes, will be back in net against the Turnpike rivals.  He is 38-20-6-1 lifetime against the Flyers, with seven shutouts.  He also earned milestone win No. 500 against the Flyers last month and has not lost a beat since then, having won 10 of the last 12 games.

NJ and Philly are both struggling recently, each team having lost three of the last four.

It's good to know that Sutter gave captain Jamie Langenbrunner a vote of confidence before yesterday's first afternoon contest at the Prudential CenterSutter was also given support from Ross McKeon of Yahoo Sports in "Family Affair."

Maybe, Sutter have the maintenance crews fix the ice problems too, as players have been complaining in the media about the surface.

While Sutter was busy in the locker rooms after yesterday's shellacking, the Devils sent out a statement to fans, reminding them of the rules.
