New Jersey Lands in Vancouver... Pelley's Back Home
The New Jersey Devils look to build on their last win over the Philadelphia Flyers when they take on Vancouver at 10 p.m. on FSN NY and on the radio at WFAN 660 AM.
Rod Pelley, who grew up in nearby Kitimat, British Columbia, is expecting some fans in the audience, including both of his parents and brother Ryan and possibly some of Ryan's friends. Now in his second season, Pelley skates mostly on the fourth line and occasionally kills penalties. His father made the long journey to New Jersey to see Rod play his second NHL game last season, and both parents flew to NJ earlier this season to see Rod play a bunch of games at the Prudential Center.
In the meanwhile, David Pratt of the Province (Canadian newspaper) bashed Devils GM/President Lou Lamoriello, who cares more about winning than attracting high TV ratings, or selling tickets... I am starting to believe that the Devils are like the anti-christ, the New York Yankees of the NHL. What I do not understand is how they have reached such a plateau with limited media coverage and nobody named Barry Bonds, Tony Romo, or Alex Rodriguez... intriguing... but Pratt focuses on the fact that Lamoriello is trigger-happy when it comes to coaches.. fair point... no argument there...but the point is that the Devils play in the most competitive market in sports and have only been in the Garden State since 1982. Unlike the Rangers, Knicks, Yanks, Islanders, Nets, and Mets for that matter, the Devils have won a championship after the year 2000... why then do people like Pratt continually rant? Jealousy? Upset that Vancouver does not have a future Hall of Fame goaltender Martin Brodeur? I'd say so...
Which reminds me... G Roberto Luongo will return to his starting role tonight against Brodeur... his bruised ribs have miraculously healed just in time for the Devils... wow, what a surprise...
Another piece of literature coming from Hockey.com (a fan site)...
"The Vancouver Province pointed out the travel disparity between the Canucks and New Jersey Devils. Since Dec. 1, the Canucks have racked up 8,516 miles while the Devils have traveled just 895. Buzz thinks the comparison can be a valid exercise. But it wasn't made clear that the Devils played just three road games during that time while the Canucks were away from home six times..."
Let me get this straight... the Devils started the season on a three-week nine-game road trip and people complained... it was also a record-tying road trip... such fools... look at the schedule... since that period, the Devils have played more home games (duh!)... teams play 41H/41A... just useless blogs out there, sorry to say...
1,000:
In other news, former Devils head coach and current Minnesota Wild coach(only one in their history) Jacques Lemaire will be behind the bench for his 1,000th career game... congratulations to the coach who restored and perfected the "Neutral Zone Trap" en route to the Devils first of threes Stanley Cup Trophies...
