New Jersey Devils In Action Tonight
According to USA TODAY, the New Jersey Devils have been struggling to repeat last year's success. They are 1-2 right now, goaltender Martin Brodeur has failed to earn a victory yet, and they do not resemble 2006-2007's team.
"New Jersey (1-2-0) made its 10th straight postseason appearance after compiling a 49-24-9 record in the regular season last year. Reigning Vezina Trophy-winning goaltender Martin Brodeur set a single-season record with 48 wins, and helped the Devils tie for third in the league with a 2.35 goals-against per game average."
Tonight, the Florida Panthers host the Devils for the second time this season in the first four games. In the previous match, the Devils defeated the Panthers 4-1.
Goalkeeper Kevin Weekes started that game and boy was he delightful to watch. However, Brodeur is starting tonight and resuming his starting his position.
Stan Fischler disagrees with this decision. He says to ride the goaltender that is hot. This does seem to be rookie head coach Brent Sutter's methodology anyway as he rotates lines throughout games in search of the right pairing.
Then again, Marty is starting tonight because he is the number one goalie on the Devils and one of the best in the National Hockey League. Benching Brodeur for any significant amount of time is harmful to him and to the team's success.
By the way, Brodeur is 30-10-0 with seven ties and a 1.96 goals-against average in 47 career games against Florida. I think this tells us who is starting tonight, if anyone had doubt or uncertainty about the goaltending situation.
Tune in tonight at 7:30PM for the game on FSNY, WFAN 660AM. I will be live blogging the contest.
