Kevin Weekes in Goal Tonight vs. Islanders
Backup goaltender Kevin Weekes will be in goal for tonight's contest against the Islanders. Weekes is making his second start of the season and the first since making 32 saves in a 4-1 win in Florida on Oct. 6, according to Fire and Ice's Tom Gulliti.
I also posted a Q and A with Islesblogger’s Michael Schuerlein, who is a member of the Islanders Blog Box, prior to tonight’s road matchup with the Islanders.
Jeremy: The Islanders signed three players this off-season who are currently leading the team in point production. What does that say about the management staff's decision-making and did you expect Guerin, Comrie, and Fedotenko to be doing this well after seven games?
Mike: I don’t think anyone expected the “free agent line” to start producing at the volume they have been – but honestly what more can you expect out of players who all have something to prove? I feel that management did a great job considering everything the organization lost to free agency...
I additionally previewed the contest which takes place on the Island.
Therefore, here are my keys to the game:
Man Advantage/ Penalty Kill:
The Devils have now allowed at least one power play goal in six consecutive games, numbers that are downright pitiful. I mean they are on the road, certain important people are still recovering from off-season injuries and surgeries, but excuses are for losers. They are dead last in the league in PK with 69.0%. The Islanders are tied for fourth place in the league in penalty kill (90.0%). In terms of power plays, the Islanders are No.2 in the league in PP scoring, while the Devils are not far behind (10th overall)...
Good luck to Weekes! Let's get a huge win before traveling to The City for the New York Rangers next Thursday night.
