9:44 Devils lose 4-1... recap in a few moments... bear with us

9:28 tv timeout... Devils fans head to the exits, who can blame them? the Devs have one goal on 29 shots and refuse to score... it's not in their game plan I guess...

9:25 3-1 Ottawa.... it's gonna be a long season for the Devils if they continue to not take advantage of power plays, breakaways, rare short-handed chances, and maybe get the refs attention instead of getting every call against them

9:23 Devils are short a man... crap call by refs on Vishnevski...must kill PP, then score (something the Devils were seemingly familiar with until they faced the Rangers on Thursday night)

9:18p.m. and 9:23 remaining as the Devils need a second goal to tie the score, which should still be 1-1 after witnessing the Sens illegal play in the Devs zone... I would not blame the refs but the Sens slash of Oduya resulted in their game-changing goal... go figure

9:14 Frustrating sequence of event as Sens take 2-1 lead on letdown in Devils defensive zone... Johny Oduya's stick was chopped/ a slash should have been called by the refs prior to the Sens second goal

9:06 Sorry I was attempting to see the Red Sox score, watch a little bit of Old School, and catch a glimpse of the Ohio St. football game as well... I am back for the remainder of the cotnest... the last 16 minutes

8:42 Brodeur is still dominating, Devils kill of the PP, maybe Elias will learn how to score a goal... maybe

8:40 Andy Greene sits for two minutes for his extra jab in the scruff in front of Martin Brodeur... we cannot afford another power play goal... Jay Pandolfo almost scores a SH... that was close to a 2-1 Devs lead... but no cigar

8:37 mini scruff breaks out... Chants of D-E-V-I-L-S resonate in the building... the fans are trying to get the Devils pumped up...

8:35 Finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Devils catch a break as Gionta's shot hits a skate in front and the Devils tie the game at 1-1

8:32 Devils get a chance at redemption as Sergei Brylin is slashed... let's see the Devils have not scored in the last 104+ minutes

8:28 Brodeur is huge, Devils clear... passed half way mark of penalty kill and game... Devils lead in shots on goal, 22-12, but Sens lead in score.... which matters most

8:27 Devils are called for their first penalty... the second period is definitely favoring the Sens, and killing Travis Zajac's penalty is huge to the game's outcome

8:20 Sens take a 1-0 lead on what looked like a deflection by Chris Neil on a Andrej Meszaros shot from the point

8:15 Devils need to generate a shot on their PP and not allow two two-on-one short handed plays

8:13 Devils have their first power play chance after Dany Heatley interferes with David Clarkson... the Devils need to overcome 0-17 streak in their previous three games

8:13 The New Jersey Devils officially completed period No. 1 of Prudential Center.  They generated several offensive chances, held the Sens off the scoreboards, but had nothing to show for it.  I am on edge watching this contest, like the thousands of fans scattered along the Rock.  The Devils’ second period efforts might make or break this game.  The score is knotted at 0-0 and the next goal will impact the game and fans.
7:55- Devils outshot the Sens 18-5 in the first period, had many somewhat good chances to score... but cannot find the net... need to keep the momentum strong for the second period

7:50- still 0-0... I can feel a goal so badly... 1:15 remaining in the first period...

7:42 0-0.... quantity over quality tonight... many shots for the Devils in hopes of finding the loose puck

7:33- fans are rather quiet... could be from watching the Rutgers football game today (which I unfortunately attended in the pouring rain and 31-3 defeat courtesy of conference rival West Virginia)

7:27- three or four Devils have fallen on the new ice... jeez- im getting nervous

7:26 the new arena has a sick video camera showing us a new angle from atop (underneath the humongous titrantron)

7:25 Oduya- hold onto your stick you moron

7:24 Martin Gerber is in net for the Sens... the same goaltender who beat the Devs 4-2 earlier in the season... the Devils need the first goal tonight

7:22 the game is finally underway... after a very nice ceremony, which had its groundbreaking Thursday before Bon Jovi's concert

7:19 national anthems for Canada and the United States of A...Emmy Rossum is smoking, what a fox...the Devils fans are excited about the new arena... hopefully, the players are just as enthusiastic... and the fans actually showed up because they turn the train (approximately 46% according to survery on njdevs.com)

7:12 here's another change to tonight's game... maybe Elias, Zubrus, Gionta, and the Devils will score a few goals, d-up on the Sens top line (arguably the best in the league)...

7:11 The Devils introduce their team... I like this new PA guy... I already hear the fans applauding every player's name... just cannot wait for Brodeur to enter the ice

7:08 As Dave Chapelle says, "Let's start the show!" I am so excited about live blogging the Devils first ever home game in their new arena.......... WOOHOO!!!! Which also reminds me... why am I sitting in an uncomfortable leather chair from Staples Inc. blogging a game I should be attending? Let's focus on the Devils please. Thanks.

7:04 I forgot to mention a few important changes to tonight's game...

Kevin Clark, new PA announcer- does that mean a new goal horn? I sure hope so (olay gotta go, this is not soccer)- nice, zombie nation... now, the devils need to score to utlize their new horn...

Tom Guliti has the Devils expected lines for tonight as always:

Tonight's expected line combinations and defense pairs (based on the morning skate):

Forwards: Elias-Zajac-Zubrus; Brylin-Parise-Gionta; Pandolfo-Madden-Clarkson; Rupp-Pelley-Asham.

Defense: Oduya-Martin; Greene-Rachunek; Vishnevski-Brookbank.

I pray that the defense can step up tonight, as they have been struggling to keep the puck of the net

7:03- Doc and Chico are hosting the game from one of the lounges in the Prudential Center... niceness

7:00- do you know where you children are? just kidding... the Devils pregame ceremony is coming to a close... I love Doc Emrick and Chico Resch....wonderful tv announcers

6:59 p.m. Commercial... boring!

shots on net

the devils are taking many shots on net, trying to find loose pucks somewhere... i just never see loose pucks or another Devs forward in site around the opposing goaltender... especially on the power play when gionta was able to deflect pucks past the goalie... something that is definitely in the past... the devils forwards would deflect pucks right and left in year's past, but not anymore...

Shots on net

out shooting but no quality shots, shots seem amature
