Calling all Devils- Time to Wake Up...
There is a lot on the line tonight for the ex-captain Patrik Elias, head coach Brent Sutter, and the New Jersey Devils when they host Atlantic Division rival Philadelphia. After last home game's 5-0 spanking courtesy of Pittsburgh and Sidney Crosby, Sutter did some spanking of his own.... well not literally, but you get the point… and if you don’t… you should do some more reading- “Devils take a penalty ride…” At least Sutter was upset… I mean, it was embarrassing watching the Devils game on Monday night, and Sutter worked his team after the game and then in practice the following day.
On the bright side, the last time we heard about a coach overworking his team… it was the Miracle on Ice in 1980… and it worked to a charm, as much as some of the players may have disliked or disagreed with then-head coach Herb Brooks’ decision-making…
Jamie Langenbrunner (offseason sports hernia surgery) and Colin White (eye injury) both returned to practice… Langenbrunner actually returned on Tuesday, while White surprised everyone on his team and took part in the morning skate.
Scott Stevens, hall-of-fame Devils captain from 1992-2005, was honored by the Devils with seven hours of his former games. FSNY and the Devils continue to commemorate one of the greatest defenseman at least in my generation… my apologies for not getting this up sooner… I hope you visited the Devils website and caught it yesterday, took off from work (flu of course), and enjoyed every game…
“They will be airing "classic contests", beginning at noon with Stevens' first game as a Devil vs. St. Louis on Oct. 5, 1991. That will be followed by Game 2 of the 1995 Eastern Conference semifinals against Pittsburgh at 2 p.m, Game 7 of the 2000 conference finals at Philadelphia (the Eric Lindros knockout game) at 4 p.m., and the Stevens' banner raising Ceremony from Feb. 3, 2006 at 6 p.m,” according to Tom Guliti.
