NHL Tuesday Update- Bettman is Howard Stern, Hall of Shame, Pray for Eric Cole, Sid the Kid
I am frustrated that the hockey Hall of Fame night was not broadcasted on television in the United States, unless you subscribed to the NHL Network. I really don't want to rant about this pathetic oversight by Gary Bettman and the Board of Governors. It's downright shameful and embarrassing. I will say this for the last time- He has to go
"Instead of televising the induction ceremony, Versus will be all over the critical and compelling match in Florida between the Hurricanes and the Panthers," New York Post’ Larry Brooks said.
Eric Mirtle shared his thoughts about the day in Toronto on Fanhouse, before admitting on his blog:
"It really doesn't make any sense that Wayne Gretzky and members of the Devils, Penguins and Hurricanes organizations can't be there tonight."
Dallas Stars GM Doug Armstrong was fired today, according to the team's press release.
"Dallas Stars Chairman of the Board and Owner Thomas O. Hicks announced today that he has relieved Doug Armstrong from his duties as General Manager of the hockey club."
Stars bloggers are not thrilled by this decision, especially Patty from her penalty killing blog.
"I am not happy about this at all. I think Army has done a fine job with the cap and he hasn’t fallen for the false hype of mediocre free agents."
I hope that Eric Cole did not suffer any serious injuries in his latest collision with goaltender Tomas Vokoun.
Sidney Crosby is apparently on pace for 127 points this season, after scoring against the Devils last night, according to Mirtle, who was on Ice Sheet duty today.
NHL commissioner Gary Bettman was not fired today, but actually hired. What!!! Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing.
“XM Canada (TSX: XSR) today announced a new weekly live satellite radio show titled "NHL Hour" which will be hosted by NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and a rotation of League executives,” according to the press release.
Apparently Bettman's daughter attends Cornell University, no surprise there.
"Bettman, a 1974 graduate, spoke for about 30 minutes to an informal crowd at Ives Hall about his ascension from law student, to NBA general counsel, to NHL commissioner."
That should give you plenty of bathroom reading until tomorrow night's Devils-Rangers first Prudential Center meeting. I hope that the building is shaking, maybe you will catch a celebrity sighting, even better... a Devils 1-0 shutout, giving Brodeur No. 500...

NHL Tuesday....
Well from my cable company...because I live in a relatively remote area in the High Desert (about 30 miles north of Palm Springs)...the NHL Network won't be available for some time. I'd be willing to chuck out $7 or whatever a month to see it....but Time Warner doesn't deem it a high priority. Oh well. I still have the Center Ice package which for now I'll just have to live with.
I would love to see certain things but out here any hockey is good hockey.
