Langenbrunner Has Successful Return, Devils Lose to Rangers
FINAL THOUGHTS: Unspecial, effortless, speechless performance by the Devils who are now playing three games in a four day stretch. Brian Gionta had a huge opportunity to trim the lead on a breakaway at 5:51 of the third. What do you know- Henrk Lundqvist (9-7-1) denied his ass... I had this feeling due to the Devils historical play against their archrivals… but this season- the Rangers are the hungrier team, while the Devils are lost in the woods…specifically, Patrik Elias, Brian Gionta, and Danius Zubrus to name a few of the struggling players, but the list is much longer…
Positives: Forward Jamie Langenbrunner returned from off season surgery to score twice in his first game… something that uncharacteristic of a Devils player this season… I’m gonna say this once- the Devils need to make a trade, an attempt to save the season… I have very little confidence after watching them play through their first 18 games (7-9-2) that they can earn a playoff spot… in the past, the Islanders and Rangers were almost like an afterthought… Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur would play his best when they came to town… and the John Madden , Jay Pandolfo, and third forward (Zubrus) line would shut the door on Jaromir Jagr, who had 1G, 1A… Scott Gomez had a very successful return to the east side of the river, 0g 2A…three rookies scored on Brodeur, who faced 23 shots throughout the game but stopped only 19 of them…denying his bid for winning No. 500…it’s early on in the season but I am deeply concerned with his play… 5-9-1, 2.86GAA, .887SV%- if anyone wants to enlighten me with their own personal theories indicating how the Devils will turn it around… I’m all ears…I hate using that expression “rebuilding…” I won’t use it and I don’t think the Devils should either as an excuse… unless they were starting rookies rather than veterans… funny thing is that three Rangers rookies scored against Brodeur last night…so if it’s rebuilding for the Devils- where are their rookies?
3RD Period: The Devils are down 4-1. To be honest, I was considering turning the channel, it's unbearable to watch such a shitty team. After their first goal, which I thought would be huge, the Devs have been slow, sluggish, lackadaisical, outmatched, and just pathetic. It's a rebuilding year apparently and I have to adjust to this style. To make matters worse, defenseman Paul Martin did not return for the second period after suffering an unknown injury in the first (lower body). The Devils have not been physical, even with Hall of Fame's Scott Stevens in the building.
2ND Period: The Devils cannot score on the power play tonight (0-4). They look more lost than a foreign tourist in New York City. They have allowed yet another a power play goal to the Rangers with 34 seconds left, breaking the unwritten rule of no goals in last two minutes of a period.
1ST Period: Jamie Langenbrunner had a successful return to the Devils scoring on his first shift, which coincidentally was the game's first shift - 35 seconds into the game. However, Nigel Dawes scored his third against the Devils this season, 50 seconds later to net the equalizer.
