Devils Status Report: Healthy (well... almost)
1. Patrik Elias was poisoned, food poisoning apparently, which sidelined him the last two games. Relax everyone, it's not related to the Hepatitis A he suffered while playing in Russia during the NHL's 2004-2005 Lockout...
"Whenever the words Elias and flu come up, there is always a little extra worry in the air. He appears to be recovered from his bout with Hepatitis that sidelined him from the lockout year to February '06. Devils GM Lou Lamoriello said Elias looked very pale and was hit suddenly with the illness. We'll keep an eye on this situation and see what Elias' availability for Wednesday's contest is" (Rotoworld).
2. Karel Rachunek missed the past three games with a lower body injury. Odds are that he returns to the lineup tonight against Dallas.
3. With everyone relatively healthy, head coach Brent Sutter will most likely start 12 offensemen, six blueliners and sit Andy Greene and Johnny Oduya , based on the line pairings in practice.
"Judging by today's pairings (White-Martin; Vishnevski-Brookbank; Rachunek-Mottau; Greene-Oduya), that could leave Andy Greene and Johnny Oduya as the two defensemen out. That's just speculation on my part, but Sutter said of Rachunek, "We've got to get him back in the lineup" (Tom Gulitti at Fire and Ice).
Of course, this is only Gulitti speculating. I personally think that Greene deserves to be on the ice and Oduya has taken himself out of the lineup by his inefficient performances this season. Some fans think that Mike Mottau and Oduya should not dress for the Wed. contest. However, Sutter likes Mottau's special teams contributions and will probably bench Greene in his place.
"Sutter also had nice things to say about Mottau and his contributions on the power play recently might give him an edge" (Gulitti).
4. Cam Janssen remains on injured reserve dating back to Sept. 20th's fighting incident. Janssen's new "and improved" Reebox jersey tore early causing the separation. He is supposed to partake in the morning skate and go from there.
