Devils Hire New Radio Color Commentator- Sherry Ross
History was made in Newark, N.J. when Sherry Ross was officially hired as the New Jersey Devils new radio color commentator. Ross will be the first woman to broadcast a male professional sports team. Congrats to her. The Canadian Press reports this. She will be broadcasting alongside play-by-play announcer Matt Loughlin. His former partner Tom Chorske retired after this past season from radio announcing. Ross will bring with her much experience, including working as a radio analyst with the Devils from January 1992 through New Jersey's first Stanley Cup-winning season in 1995. She has also worked for the NY Daily News. Taken from The NY Daily News "Sherry Ross joined the Daily News sports staff in 1995 after working three years for the New Jersey Devils. In 1992, she became the first woman to broadcast a male professional sports team as the Devils' color commentator on WABC radio. A sports journalist since 1978, and a Jersey girl all her life, she counts as her passions hockey, horses, and Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band." Apparently, there is a contradiction between my first paragraph and the Daily News report. To resolve that, I would say that she might have broadcasted a game or two prior to this season, but never a full season.
