Devils Win Their First Preseason Game- Congratulations to Brent Sutter, Rangers are Next
Head coach Brent Sutter can now sleep better at night. The New Jersey Devils won their first preseason game of his Devils professional coaching career, 3-0, over the Boston Bruins last night. For a full recap, check out Yahoo Sports. Rod Pelley scored his first of the preseason, an even strength tally, while Barry Talackson and newly acquired defenseman scored power play goals. Goaltending was outstanding for the Devils. Former New York Ranger Kevin Weekes (16 saves) combined with Frank Doyle, 8 saves, en route to the 24-save shutout and victory. Weekes was credited for his first win of the preseason. In two games this far, he has looked very solid in goal, only allowing two goals on 26 shots. Travis Zajac and Zach Parise are going to have to step up now that veteran leader Jamie Langenbrunner will be out of action for a while. There is that added pressure and I have a good feeling that they will be up the task. The Devils finally face the Rangers tonight at the Garden. The game, scheduled for 7PM on channel MSG, will be the first between the two teams. Scott Gomez is not supposed to be in the lineup. Martin Brodeur will start his first preseason contest of the 2007-2008 season.
