Recap on the Devils-Rangers Game
After Weekes departed, Jason Parise came into the game. He played alright, saving 22 out of 25 shots, in the 4-3 defeat. Danius Zubrus scored his first Devils goal of his career, unassisted, in between four Rangers goals. The Rangers scored two in the first, the first by Dane Byars and the second by Ryan Callahan. Both were power play tallies, one after Vitaly Vishnevski nailed Sean Avery with a retaliatory check to the back. This occurred after Avery knocked Devils starting goaltender out of the contest in the early stages of the first period. For more on Weekes injury, check out my previous POST where I was supposed to recap Friday night's game. But, I had to update everyone on Weekes status of course. He is supposed to back up Martin Brodeur this season. It's a big fucking deal. Blair Betts and Martin Straka scored the other two for the Rangers in the second period, before Zach Parise finally tallied late in the second period to close the gap to within two, 4-2. Brian Gionta's goal at the 13:35 mark of the third period closed the gap to only one goal, 4-3, but the Devils' luck ran out there. They still finished strongly with 28 shots on goal, while Weekes' backup and Zach Parise's older brother Jordan stopped 22/25 shots as I mentioned earlier. The Devils were also 0-7 on the power play, something that they definitely need to improve this season to be successful. Last season, the first half they were in the top ten in power play efficiency, but after the break, they had many problems finding the net on the man advantage, including the playoffs. MORE ON THE DEVILS POWER PLAY in a previous post of mine. The Devils next game is at Philadelphia, Monday night at 7:00PM. Will Brodeur start? I will find out as soon as I can, and then inform everyone. Good night.
