Training Camp Cuts
I hate training camp roster cuts, but they are part of the process. They determine who is good enough to make the team come Oct. 4th, NHL opening night for the New Jersey Devils. Unfortunately, there are players, who worked hard throughout the summer, who will be left off the roster. Yes, I do feel bad for them. New York Post "The Devils are expected to make most of their cuts after facing the Islanders tomorrow in Lowell (Mass.), where they'll likely leave their minor leaguers. They will complete preseason play Saturday in Bridgeport against the Isles. There are six other defensemen who could be penciled in for Jersey jerseys - Andy Greene, Paul Martin, Johnny Oduya, Richard Matvichuk, Karel Rachunek and Vitaly Vishnevski. If White isn't ready in time, Brent Sutter will need one more, opening a spot probably between Matt Corrente and Mike Mottau. Mark Fraser, who came up last season, has not made a preseason appearance. Up front, the loss of Langenbrunner and Janssen opens more doors. Sergei Brylin, Patrik Elias, Jay Pandolfo, Zach Parise, John Madden, Mike Rupp, Travis Zajac, Dainius Zubrus, Arron Asham, David Clarkson and Brian Gionta are all likely roster-makers, leaving three more slots. There had figured to be a competition for one spot among Rod Pelley, Petr Vrana, Bergfors and Barry Tallackson, but now three of those four could start the season with the Devils." Personally, I have not been to camp so I cannot comment on the players' progress. However, what I read and understand, due to several injuries on the team, there are openings for some unknown players this season. For now, guys, please continue to work hard and get ready for the opener.
