Major League Baseball Update

Yes, the Mets are the playing awful baseball right now. Metsblog.com's Matthew Cerrone knows that they need to step up or fail to make the playoffs. If they do, it would be the first time in history when a team was leading a division by seven games or more, after the first week in September. Basically, Jose Reyes cannot continue to hit pop-ups. The same is true for Lo Duca, Beltran, Delgado, even Alou on occasion. I want to praise David Wright for his MVP numbers, but all those errors and failed opportunities to drive in runs with key spots, prevents me from doing so. Even though Moises Alou has a 28 game hitting streak, he is still a slow base-runner and a defensive problem in the field. We're just getting started. The Pitching is next. The starting pitchers flat out stink. They cannot pitch into the sixth or seventh innings on a consistent basis. John Maine's second half included a 6.11 era versus a 2.71 before the break. Pedro is back, yet the team continues to struggle. Who to blame? That is the hardest question to answer. If you say GM Omar Minaya, because he did not resign Chad Bradford and Darren Oliver, then you are definitely right. If you say head coach Willie Randolph, since he has yet to really use his bullpen well and his late-inning decisions have been absurd, you are right as well. I personally put the blame on everyone. They are all major leaguers, most get paid millions to play the game. Take some responsibility for a change. Please make the playoffs, forget everything that happened until now. There are only six games left on the schedule. If the Mets fail to earn a playoff spot, this would be an ultimate collapse and failure of a World Series roster, which now looks like a Single A team.
