Quick Devils Recap on 6-1 Victory Tonight over the Islanders
Brian Gionta's hat trick led all scorers tonight in the Devils 6-1 defeat over the Islanders.
The New Jersey Devils have a more thorough recap of tonight’s game .
It was a nice win for the Devils, especially for their special teams units. I realize that I have been critical lately, but they proved me wrong tonight.
The powerplay units were 3 for 6 tonight on the man advantage, and held the Islanders scoreless on their power play (0 for 3).
While Gionta opened the scoring unassisted in the game's first minute of play, veteran John Madden also factored well in this contest with two tallies.
Travis Zajac was the Devils third scorer tonight, assisted by linemates Zach Parise (two assists) and David Clarkson. Head coach Brent Sutter has been fluctuating Clarkson on each line, trying to mix and match throughout training camp.
If all goes well, this threesome could be the number two line in less than eight days. I am in favor of this line and would definitely like to give it a chance before Langenbrunner returns from his groin surgery.
Two defensemen also made great strides tonight with two assists a pair, both on the power play. Andy Greene and newcomer Karel Rachunek, good job tonight. Greene definitely needs to pick up his game from last season's poor regular season and playoff performances.
The Islanders were just what the doctor ordered tonight for the Devils, who dominated this contest (with two goals in the first two minutes) and two more in the second period within the first three minutes.
