Ticket Prices May be Raised.. Oy Vey...

New Jersey state Legislators were discussing a bill yesterday that would increase ticket prices by five percent to pay for security and traffic control at the Prudential Center.  This bill would be disastrous to the Devils, who recently relocated to the downtown Newark arena after spending 25 years in the Meadowlands.

The Devils have already begun to offer a special tickets program to fans because of poor attendance figures at the new 17,625-seat arena.

John Fischer at Inlouwetrust offers his thoughts on the situation.  He's not a happy camper.

"I am, of course, outraged. The New Jersey Devils, as you know, used to play at the Brendan Byrne Arena which became the Continental Airlines Arena. The New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority essentially ran the show as owners of that arena. All of those $10+ parking fees? Them. All of those construction delays and detours? Them. The lack of consideration for those going to and from the game? Them. The reason to charge high prices for tickets? Well, it wasn't all their fault - but they were a part of it."

The Senate and Assembly still have to vote and approve of these measures before the current sessions end on Jan. 8.  They will reconvene on the third of January to discuss this matter.

“Rice's legislation exempts arenas operated by state authorities, such as the Meadowlands venues, from the new ticket surcharge,” according to the Star Ledger.

The bill, which only affects the Prudential Center’s events, includes all Devils’ home games but there’s a small catch.

“If the bill is approved, it would be up to officials in Newark to decide whether to impose the tax,” Bergen Record staff writer William Lamb said.

I would comment on this matter further, but I would like to see which directed it is headed.  Personally, I am not in favor of raising taxes in Newark or the rest of New Jersey for that matter.

We live in a state with one of the most populated highways in the country, the NJ Turnpike, Atlantic City, theme parks, the Jersey Shore, many professional sports teams, and the Meadowlands Racetrack, one of three major horse racing tracks in the state.

Where is the revenue from these state-run operations??????? John Corzine, please explain to me and the rest of the citizens in this state, where the hundreds of millions of dollars ran off to.  I'm all ears.

But, the same officials that govern and run the state have decided to deter New Jersey Devils fans from attending home games by continually raising taxes, ticket prices, etc.

I think we should start a committee, raise enough money, and buy out every ticket to every single Devils home game.  We need to show the elected officials (I can honestly say that I did not vote for a single person in office in New Jersey) that we mean business.

This is an atrocity to the wonderful state of New Jersey.  Let’s take it to the arena.
