Win Streak Continues: Devils Play 60 Full Minutes of Hockey...
Of course we are all happy that the Devils won the past six games, but up until last night, I do not feel that the Devils have played to their full potential or 60 full minutes of hockey. Last night was the best team effort of the season, highlighted with a few nice individual achievements; Zach Parise's first hat-trick of his promising career and Marty's 94th shutout of his career. Of course these players are great and deserve individual accomplishments, but the rest of the team has made it look easy for the Marty and Parise.
The Devils are different from most of the teams in the NHL, they play a different style, a hardworking team game. I think we can attribute the slow start of the Devils to the new players coming in and trying to fill voids left by the departed players. Last night was the first time that, I for one, saw the Devils play Devils hockey this season. They were stellar in their own zone and limited the Canadiens' chances.
At the end of October I was afraid that we (Devils fans) were going to be in for a long season. No "big" pick ups like the other four teams in the Atlantic Division left me to believe that this may be a rebuilding year; and as Devils fans I think that we have been spoiled with the amount of post season play and Atlantic Division crowns that we have won. But there is nothing greater then earning two points, night after night, letting the New York Rangers and the other Atlantic Division teams know that this season will be like the last 12 or so years have been.
Keep one eye in the rearview mirror because the Devils are here to compete for the title, ONCE AGAIN!!!!
